In this project, we are building a VoIP phone and Asterisk (IP-PBX) using Reconfigurable Hardware (FPGA). Project Consist of Two Parts. In First Part we were planning on implementing a voice over IP Phone on FPGA. The goal is to use SIP and other industry standard protocols for VoIP communications such as TCP, UDP, and IP. The way that the phone will work, is that the user who wishes to call someone will enter a number or other identifier, and press call. The board will try to connect with Receiver through Asterisk Soft switch, and play back a ringing tone. When the call is connected, the user will be able talk and listen from the device like a normal telephone. In Second Part we are implementing Asterisk Soft Switch with the help of Asterisk IP-PBX (An Open Source Telephony Project) on FPGA. Our Soft Switch system should be efficient enough to maintain Real time conversation. The system should handle both SIP Calls and POTS calls (Optional GSM Calls).
